I THOUGHT I COULDN'T APPLY ESSENTIAL OILS DIRECTLY TO MY SKIN?
Correct, we do not recommend any essential oil be applied directly (a.k.a "neat") to the skin. They are powerful concentrated oils and are designed to be either diffused, diluted in carrier oils or be incorporated into our finished products.
However, these essential oil roll-ons have essential oils mixed with a carrier oil, so they are able to be applied directly to your skin!
HOW DOES AROMATHERAPY WORK?
Plants and plant essences have been used for therapeutic and aromatic purposes for thousands of years. They are the basis of many medicines and fragrances. Different essential oils have different properties – some are analgesic, while others can be calmative, some anti-inflammatory, others immunostimulant.
According to “Essential Aromatherapy” by Susan and Valerie Ann Worwood:
“In aromatherapy there are two basic ways in which essential oils have an effect upon the human body through the nose and through the skin. Aromas are volatile, meaning they disperse in the air, float, and eventually reach the nose. These aromatic molecules float up the nostrils and come into contact with nerves extending from the olfactory bulbs, and ending in two small, sticky patches at the top of the nasal cavity. When the aroma molecule hits receptors in the nerve-rick patches, it sets off a reaction that results in brain activity…. Essential oil molecules also enter the trachea and lungs as we inhale…. Essential oils are also thought to enter the body through the skin because their molecules are extremely tiny. The surest evidence that essential oils get into the body is found in the scientific analysis of the means of excretion – perspiration, feces, urine, breath – after a certain amount of time has passed following the application of essential oils.“
