One of our first employee hires, Jess works in our retail store and helps us with advertising, writing and promotion, including our social media on Facebook and Instagram. With an engaging personality and extensive product knowledge, Jess gets rave reviews for taking care of customers and introducing them to our products and craft soapmaking.
We had Jess answer a few questions so you can get to know her better!
What do you love most about what you do?
Being able to share knowledge about the importance of natural skincare with customers. I love having individual conversations with every person that walks in and getting to know regulars. I also have fun running our Instagram account.
What’s something new you’ve learned while working at Glenn Avenue?
How important having a strong social media presence is for growing businesses! And how bad many commercial 'soaps' are for your body and the environment.
We know you work for another awesome local business, Bake Me Happy, baking up gluten free treats. Do you have a favorite thing you make there?
One of my favorite things we make are our savory scones. We have a ham, cheese & chives flavor that is amazing. But everything we make is delicious, whether you are gluten free or not!
What inspires/drives you to work for small, local businesses?
I like working for local businesses because they're truly passionate about what they do, and I enjoy being a part of that. There's a strong focus on supporting the community. Plus, small owners are the most awesome bosses ever.
What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Exploring outside and taking walks around my neighborhood. I also like cycling, and I love to read and write too.
What’s your perfect meal?
Either shrimp pad thai or a platter of sushi.
What’s an album or song you never get sick of?
I am still listening to Haim's Days Are Gone and Wild Nothing's Nocturne pretty regularly.
What’s one weird fact about you?
One of my biggest hobbies is playing video games. My Mom is a ‘gamer’ and got me started with some Nintendo classics like Mario and the Legend of Zelda when I was barely old enough to walk.
What would your ideal Saturday look like?
Eating a nice breakfast and doing something outdoors, like hiking or cycling. Then having a drink with my friends at a local bar/brewery like Little Rock or Seventh Son.
